Our Streets seeks an enthusiastic and community-oriented Organizer to connect with residents impacted by transportation projects and advocate for equitable, people-centered solutions. This role engages directly with community members through door knocking, phone banking, and event participation to amplify Our Streets’ campaigns and collect valuable feedback.

Our work is rooted in anti-oppression and creating spaces that support and welcome all identities, meaning all genders, races, religions, abilities, orientations, etc. We work to prioritize the voices of people and communities historically left out of the transportation decision-making process.

Position Overview

The Canvasser will work closely with the Community Engagement Specialist, Advocacy and Policy Manager, and Advocacy Coordinator to conduct direct outreach, introduce community members to Our Streets’ campaigns, and ensure their input is reflected in our work. This position offers a flexible schedule with a minimum of 8 hours per week and up to 20 hours per week.

Core Responsibilities

• Direct Community Engagement:
  • Conduct door knocking, phone banking, and participate in community events to engage residents.
  • Share information about Our Streets’ campaigns and listen to community perspectives.
• Volunteer Training & Support:
  • Train and support volunteer canvassers to effectively engage with community members.
• Data Collection & Reporting:
  • Collect, enter, and report on community feedback and engagement data.
  • Monitor and report on literature inventory to ensure materials are available for outreach.
• Collaboration & Event Participation:
  • Collaborate with fellow canvassers during shifts to achieve engagement goals.
  • Support Our Streets events by sharing campaign information or assisting with logistics.
