SUMMARY:Volunteer Doorknocking
DESCRIPTION:Join us in gathering signatures to save Twin Cities Boulevard! \n\n\n\nContinued community pushback is the only path forward to restore the boulevard options for the next phase of the Rethinking I-94 project. The community letter outlines opposition to MnDOT’s recommendation and asks for the boulevard options to be rightfully restored. It may not seem like much\, but every signature represents someone who believes a better future is possible. Let’s get those signatures! \n\n\n\nNo doorknocking experience required. \n\n\n\nSign Up\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nBackground\n\n\n\nThe Twin Cities Boulevard is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to repair the harms of the construction of I-94. The most responsible option for the future of the Rethinking I-94 project is a multi-modal boulevard that returns the surrounding land to neighborhoods and fulfills calls for reparative justice along the corridor. But MnDOT is deliberately ignoring community support for a boulevard conversion and leaving severe flaws in evaluation criteria unaddressed. MnDOT is recommending eliminating the boulevard-compatible options from consideration\, despite immense support in their own community survey and from elected officials advising on the project. MnDOT will finalize its recommendations\, which currently exclude the boulevard options\, sometime in the fall. We have until then to save ourselves from 60 more years of a highway that cuts through the Twin Cities and harms the health and livelihood of everyone who neighbors it. \n\n\n\nTake Action

SUMMARY:Creatures of the Night: 94 Stories Project
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Bell Museum Star Party for an evening of astronomy and memory! How do you and your fellow creatures experience the highway and urban landscape at night? The 94 Stories project (an Our Streets collaboration with public historian Jessie Merriam and Freeway Stories artist Hawona Janzen) is an oral history project collecting first-hand experiences of neighborhoods along the I-94 corridor. \n\n\n\n94 Stories project website

SUMMARY:Week Without Driving with America Walks
DESCRIPTION:Challenge yourself to not drive for a week! Those who can drive and have access to a car don’t face the same barriers of people who rely on daily walking\, rolling\, transit\, and asking for rides. Week Without Driving is a firsthand learning experience so that those who have the option to drive can learn about the barriers nondrivers often face. \n\n\n\nHere’s how it works: You can get around however you want without driving yourself in any car. This applies to all your activities\, not only your work commute! Consider carpooling or paying for rides\, biking to work\, or taking public transit to get around. If you have to drive\, this doesn’t mean you failed the challenge. Instead\, use this an opportunity to reflect and consider what this means for nondrivers. \n\n\n\nAnyone can participate in the Week Without Driving! Take this opportunity to challenge yourself and not drive for a week. \n\n\n\nSign up for Week Without Driving

SUMMARY:MnDOT Coffee in the Community
DESCRIPTION:Want to know what’s happening with Rethinking I-94? The Minnesota Department of Transportation is hosting its monthly Coffee in the Community\, an informal conversation with the project team. Grab a cup of coffee and come ready with questions! We suggest asking why the agency is going against community in prematurely removing the at-grade A & B (boulevard) options. \n\n\n\nMnDOT intends to finalize the decision to remove the at-grade boulevard options from consideration for Rethinking I-94 in the fall. Can’t make the event? Take action to save the Twin Cities Boulevard! \n\n\n\nTake Action for Twin Cities Boulevard

SUMMARY:City Limits | Q&A with Megan Kimble
DESCRIPTION:Join Our Streets’ Street Smarts Book Club and journalist Megan Kimble to discuss her book\, City Limits: Infrastructure\, Inequality\, and the Future of America’s Highways. \n\n\n\nIn City Limits\, Kimble weaves together the origins of urban highways with the stories of ordinary people impacted by our failed transportation system. The book is an eye-opening investigation into how our ever-expanding urban highways accelerated inequality and fractured communities—and a call for a more just\, sustainable path forward. \n\n\n\nAuthor Megan Kimble will be joining us via Zoom for a Q&A! You can register to attend virtually or RSVP to join us in person\, along with current Twin Cities Transportation Academy students. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Virtually\n\n\n\nPlease support your local bookstore or the library. You can purchase your copy from Moon Palace Books and get 20% off with promo code STREETS. If it is cost-prohibitive\, email info@ourstreetsmn.org—we have a few copies we can lend.
