SUMMARY:Heritage Park National Night Out
DESCRIPTION:Note: This event was previously part of the Imagine Series and scheduled for July 12\, but was rescheduled to be a part of National Night Out due to poor air quality. \n\n\n\nJoin us at National Night Out and share feedback on the future of the Olson Memorial Highway. There will be free food truck meals\, music\, and your neighbors! \n\n\n\n\n\nWhen the Minnesota Highway Commission (now the Minnesota Department of Transportation or MnDOT) routed and constructed Olson Memorial Highway over historic 6th Avenue North in the late 1930s and 1940s\, it destroyed a vibrant Black and Jewish community corridor\, often called the “Beale Street of Minneapolis.” Homes\, businesses\, jazz clubs\, synagogues\, churches\, and community centers were demolished to make way for the highway.  \n\n\n\nAbout the Imagine Series\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
