If we’re willing to spend millions rebuilding Lyndale, we should be willing to support the businesses and riders who make Lyndale worth rebuilding.

Lyndale Avenue South is one of Minneapolis’ most important commercial corridors.

Thousands of people rely on it every day to get to work, reach local businesses, visit friends and family, access services, and move through the city.

Hennepin County’s latest redesign includes important improvements, including a separated bikeway and additional green space. But it still falls short of delivering the people-first corridor Lyndale deserves.

As construction approaches, we are asking decision makers to publicly commit to two common-sense priorities:

1. Implement dedicated 24/7 bus lanes throughout the entire corridor.

Transit riders should not be treated as an afterthought. Reliable transit is proven to improve access to jobs and employee retention. It supports local businesses, reduces congestion, improves air quality, and makes Lyndale work better for everyone.

2. Keep Lyndale businesses whole during construction.

Small businesses should not bear the burden of a necessary public infrastructure project. The county, city, and project staff should develop a construction mitigation strategy that helps businesses survive and thrive throughout construction and after the project is completed.

A successful Lyndale is one where businesses can thrive and people can move safely, affordably, and reliably: no matter how they get there.

Send a message today and ask decision makers project leaders to deliver a Lyndale that works for workers, riders, residents, and businesses alike.

Don’t let them tell you what’s possible. Ask them to live up to our standard for our streets.
