State elected officials representing communities in the Twin Cities joined together to formally ask the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and Governor Walz to pause the Rethinking I-94 and Trunk Highway 252/I-94 projects in a letter, citing concern around disrupted community engagement due to Operation Metro Surge and “federal directives prohibiting consideration of climate impacts, public health, and equity in transportation decision-making fundamentally conflict with Minnesota law and values.”

Open Streets Minneapolis™, the highly-anticipated event series that closes city streets to motor vehicle traffic, will return to Lyndale Avenue this Sunday, June 7, 2026. The founders of Open Streets MPLS™, Our Streets, will close Lyndale Avenue S from W 22nd Street to W 42nd Street to car traffic from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Minneapolis residents to enjoy neighborhood businesses and safe biking, walking and rolling. Attendees can get a glimpse of streets as public spaces and the vibrancy of pedestrian-friendly boulevards at the free, family-friendly event.

Our Streets is seeking an artist for the 2026 Open Streets Minneapolis™ design. This design will be utilized on the poster, t-shirts, and other promotional materials. The chosen artist will be compensated a flat fee of $600.

Due to the severe weather and expected forecast, Our Streets is postponing Imagine Harrison. While we are disappointed we can’t celebrate today, the safety of our community is our highest priority. A new date will be announced at a later time.

Our Streets is hosting two Imagine events this summer in Near North Minneapolis as part of the campaign to “Bring Back 6th.” The transportation advocacy organization started this event series in 2021, aiming to gain community input on Olson Memorial Highway while celebrating the neighborhood with live music, a small business market, art, and other family-friendly activities.
