Climate-Friendly Building Tour

June 25 @ 6:00 pm 7:30 pm

A developer's rendering of the new Firefly Apartments complex. A three story rectangular building with metal siding, large windows, and metal balconies. Two apple trees, orange lilies, tall grasses, and a small lawn are in front of the building. To the side of the building, large birch trees line a shaded concrete walkway to the building. A person with short hair and brown skin stands on the top balcony. A person with shoulder length hair and brown skin is on the second balcony. In front of the building, a person with short hair and white skin wearing overalls tends to the plants. A person with short hair in a wheelchair rolls on the sidewalk toward the building. A person with shoulder-length light brown hair rolls their bike in front of the building. Two people walk toward the camera away from the building. A blue sky is in the background. An adjacent building with tan siding can be seen on the right edge of the frame, behind the line of birch trees.

Climate-friendly building tour and open house at Firefly Apartments: a new, all-electric, energy efficient building that promotes healthy air and sustainable transportation.

Join owner/developer Jay Rajaratnam and architect Adam Bradley Jonas to see how they replaced a poorly constructed single family home (SFH) with a 12-unit apartment showcasing green building techniques and sustainable-living.

Features: bike amenities, walk/bike/transit/carshare-friendly location, low utility costs, rooftop solar, all-electric efficiency from Energy Star appliances, induction stoves that are safer, easier, and healthier than gas, efficient heat pump technology, and Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) that provides fresh air and recaptures up to 80% of energy.

Read about the building’s origin story in the Sahan Journal

Please walk/bike/bus/carshare/carpool if you can! There is no off-street parking available at this urban infill development (and that’s intentional!)

Light refreshments provided.  Please RSVP to help us plan for you.

This event is organized by Sierra Club, in partnership with Our Streets, Neighbors for More Neighbors, Bike MN, and APA-MN.
