Residents of the West Bank and beyond gathered for the “party of the year” this past Sunday at Open Streets MPLS Cedarfest™. Hosted by Our Streets and West Bank Business Association, hundreds of people walked down Cedar Avenue and Riverside Avenue to dance, listen to live music, shop the Makers Market, watch wiener dog races, ride the slide of the Southside Battletrain, and experience what the rich area of the West Bank has to offer.
The day was idyllic, with beautiful weather and fun for all ages. It was a joyful expression of what’s possible when our streets prioritize people.
I don’t have a short, simple explanation for what’s kept me here far, far longer than I expected. I just have about a zillion moments like this.

The Concrete River Mobile Museum about the history of the neighborhood was on display. When organizing street closure events and block parties, Our Streets prioritizes event corridors that lack existing public space or have been harmed in past transportation planning decisions.
Open Streets Minneapolis™ Cedarfest followed a call from state legislators to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) to pause the Rethinking I-94 project. Cedar Riverside will be greatly impacted by the outcome of the Rethinking I-94 project, and many neighbors feel the agency has ignored their input by moving forward without highway removal options.
