As Minnesota wraps up its warmest winter on record, a new report shows a promising transportation alternative for the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s (MnDOT) Rethinking I-94 project, which will determine the future of the 7.5-mile stretch of highway between downtown Minneapolis and downtown Saint Paul.
A project to “Bring Back 6th” in Near North Minneapolis has received a $1.6 million federal grant as part of the Reconnecting Communities Program, which aims to reconnect communities that were cut off due to past transportation and infrastructure decisions.
We want to reiterate our position and concerns on traffic cameras and automated enforcement as the City of Minneapolis advocates for their legalization.
The City of Minneapolis is advocating for a bill to legalize automated traffic enforcement in Minnesota, and seeks to implement a pilot program as soon as “traffic safety cameras” are legalized. To inform a potential pilot and future program, the City is hosting open house information sessions to share information and collect resident feedback.

Hennepin County is now creating potential design options, which will be released in early 2024. Now is an important time to make your voice heard.Hennepin County is working to improve access to the Midtown Greenway. There is currently no ADA-compliant entrance to the Greenway in the Whittier neighborhood. The county has identified an existing path through the Soo Line Garden, a community garden on land owned by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB), which it intends to adapt into an accessible ramp.
In August, the City of Minneapolis Public Works Department ended the partnership with Our Streets Minneapolis hosting Open Streets Minneapolis, a beloved community event and hallmark of summer for many Minneapolis residents. There was no advance discussion of ending the partnership or the future of the event series.
Following community input, the City’s project team has developed preliminary design concepts for both the New Nicollet Avenue street and potential public space on the site.
If there is enough public pressure, we can save Open Streets for 2025.
